Maine Printmaker
Work that explores the ecology of Maine forests and ponds.
Georgina’s art is inspired by both the macro and micro world: from the forests of Maine to the protozoans and algae that dwell in vernal pools.
Using an intaglio press and photo silkscreen apparatus she built herself, Georgina combines multiple printmaking techniques in her images. She makes small, variable editions of twelve prints that document the intricacies of color and form in the natural world around her.
In 2018, Georgina was awarded the “Democracy, Journalism, and the Informed Citizen” grant from the Maine Humanities Council. This grant funded her work “Certainty”, a collection of art, poetry, and letters submitted by local and international communities. The submissions were assembled into books that were distributed back out into the community. These books explored the idea of truth and how humanity views it. This continues to hold relevance as our culture rapidly changes and the environment around us continues to be stressed.
“For Georgina, a relief print is more than a printing method. It is a decompression, an extraction of analytical seeing and contemplation of how fragile and beautiful nature is.”
